You will be seeing the following places during the Kailash yatra:

Rakshastal– It is located to the west of Lake Mansarovar. Rakshastal is a saltwater lake, which means the lake of demons. It is said that the demon king Ravana meditated here and recited the Shiva Tandav Stotram to impress Lord Shiva.

Lake Mansarovar– This is the point where we get the first view of Mount Kailash. It is a freshwater lake that was first envisioned by Lord Brahma and then manifested on Earth.

Yamdwar– One of the most prominent attractions of the Kailash Yatra, Yamdwar is the Gate of Salvation. It is believed that passing through this gate washes away your sins. This is the point from where Mount Kailash Parikrama starts.

Mount Kailash– The main motive to go on the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is to get the darshan of the Holy Mountain Kailash. It is believed that Kailash Parvat is the resting abode of Lord Shiva and his family.

Nandi Parvat– Next to Mount Kailash is the Nandi Parvat. Nandi Ji is believed to be the Vehicle (Vahan) of Lord Shiva, so wherever there is Lord Shiva, Nandi Ji will be there. The Nandi Parvat is a mountain in the shape of Nandi Ji.

Dhirapuk- After completing the first day of Parikrama of Mount Kailash, we reach Dhirapuk. It is the place that gives the most beautiful view of Mount Kailash between the two other mountains. One can spot the Golden Kailash in the morning from this point.

Shiva Sthal– On the second day of Mount Kailash Parikrama, we get to see Shiva Sthal, which is the place where people donate clothes and ornaments, as it is said that if you donate something at Shivasthal, you will get it in your next life.

Dolma La Pass– This is the highest point of the Kailash Parikrama, which is situated at an elevation of 6800 meters above sea level. You get to visit Dolma La pass on the second day of Mount Kailash Parikrama.

Gaurikund– It is a perfectly round-shaped lake just ahead of Dolma La Pass and is believed to be the birthplace of Lord Ganesha. It is said to be the lake in which Mata Parvati used to take a bath and created Lord Ganesha.

    When To Go

The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, one of the most popular pilgrimages in India, takes place from May to September. The peak season is June, but travellers might face sunburn or other heat allergies due to extreme hot weather. The rainy season is July to mid-August, but fewer yatris visit during this time. The Shravan month is preferred for the darshan of Kailash Parvat and Mansarovar Jheel. Similarly, September is the best time to complete the Mount Kailash trek. Bookings for 2026 are ongoing, coinciding with the Tibetan Horse Year, as per the Tibetan zodiac calendar and the Chinese calendar. It is one of the auspicious years, where 1 Parikrama of Kailash is equivalent to 13 Parikramas of Kailash.

The weather is unpredictable at Kailash; however, many pilgrims prefer September as the best month to go for Kailash Parikrama because the weather is pleasant and there is almost a moderate rush. The parikrama of Lake Mansarovar can be done in all the months from May to September.

The rainy season in the Kailash Mansarovar region occurs between July to mid-August. However, the Kailash yatra is not much affected by the rain except for a few instances of delay. This season sees a good number of yatris visiting Mansarovar Lake and Kailash Parbat, because it is the holy month of Shravan. Since there is no greenery in the area, rain showers last for only a few minutes, but it is compulsory to carry a raincoat.

The temperature and weather in the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra are not fixed, and you will find major variations while entering the Tibetan region of the Mansarovar. Generally, the  Kailash Mansarovar Yatra temperature does not fall to minus, and it ranges between 15 to 20 degrees Celsius during the day, and at night, the temperature is between 5 to 9 degrees Celsius.

However, the weather at Kailash Mansarovar is slightly unpredictable, and one must carry their summer, winter, and rainy season clothes. Pilgrims must be properly dressed according to the weather. We provide a down jacket to all the yatris travelling with us on the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. It is also advisable to carry good woollens for layering, and one must ensure to cover their head to avoid getting a cold.

    Medical facilities

A permanent doctor cannot be available all the time with the Kailash Yatra group, due to the cost of deploying a doctor and the unavailability of proper medical care in that high-altitude, remote region of Kailash. Although many groups have doctors who join as pilgrims and assist when needed. Reaching such a high altitude can cause problems, especially when someone is not physically fit, taking stress, not eating properly, or not taking prescribed medicines. We provide guidance and instructions for physical and mental stability as well as our guides and sherpas are well-trained to handle emergencies. In the most extreme situations, our priority lies in bringing the yatri to a lower altitude, and if the problem persists, they’re taken to the hospital. Basic medical facilities are available at various locations on the Kailash Mansarovar route, but any extra transportation or medical charges are not included in the package and must be borne by pilgrims themselves.

The tour guides and sherpas are experienced in handling emergencies; an oximeter and an oxygen cylinder are available with our tour guide at all stops. It is recommended that pilgrims purchase a portable oxygen cylinder for emergencies during travel. Furthermore, your health status is assessed at Manasarovar Lake before you proceed for Mount Kailash Parikrama. If unwell, the group leader will check the oxygen level, and then the trekking guidelines will be provided accordingly. Medical evacuation is only possible on day 1, but eventually, pilgrims must be physically fit and should maintain an intact oxygen level throughout. Medical and evacuation charges, as well as the VISA separation charge, must be paid if taken to Nepal.

The guides carry basic medical kits along with oximeters during the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. Oxygen cylinders are available at accommodation points for emergency usage. We advise customers to purchase a portable oxygen cylinder and carry their regular medicines, if any, prescribed by their doctor, like for controlling blood pressure, sugar levels, etc.

Our responsible team consists of a Tibetan Guide, a Nepali guide, and a Tour manager who are highly dedicated to delivering the best service. The Tibetan guide is the sole responsible person for the Tibetan region travel, as they are well-connected with all the Tibetan departments and facilitation centres. The Nepali guide acts as a link between pilgrims and Tibetan guides, they help yatris get instructions from the Tibetan guide. The Tour Manager is an additional support from India who takes care of all your emergencies and requirements throughout, who’s mostly connected with our office in India for coordination, rescue, and other necessary support.
